TRAVEL FOR smallspace 6

As the date for smallspace 6 clashes with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone (sorry 'bout that - unavoidable...) several have asked about best way to travel to Hanslope - so here are a few pointers - though nothing is guaranteed!

(The public transport, minicab and hotel details that are also elsewhere on the 'site are duplicated here at the end.)

BY ROAD

Silverstone - arrowed - is to the north-west of Hanslope, near Towcester west of where the A43 crosses the A5.

Travel map

Consequently avoid Towcester, Buckingham and Brackley, ie anything in the red circle!

This effects most travelling from the west/north west. If you are coming this way, either detour north to Daventry, and join the M1 south at J16, or head south, possibly down M40, to Bicester, (J9) take A40 to Aylesbury and onto A5. (There is also a route via the new by-pass A4146)

Travelling from north and south on M1

FROM THE NORTH you would usually take J15 right, onto the A508 to Roade - BUT It is probably best NOT to take this, instead stay on M1 until J14 (you pass Hanslope on the right - the church spire is usually visible)

From the north on M1, at J14 turn LEFT (east) to Newport Pagnell

FROM THE SOUTH on M1 - this also applies, but at J14, turn RIGHT (east) to Newport Pagnell

In both case ignore MK signs that will take you west.

Follow road to Newport Pagnell for 2 miles. At large roundabout go straight over into Newport P town centre (you will pass Aston Martin on left and go over the iron bridge).
At mini-roundabout in town centre turn RIGHT (you will be tempted to turn left - don't) Follow road out of NP, and over River Ouse.
(Watch for 40mph road outside Newport - mobile cameras are often there!!)

Follow road for 3 miles, sharp left-hander through Lathbury, and on to Gayhurst.
AFTER double bends, turn left - signposted Hanslope.
After 2 miles you will go back over M1, through Tathall End (sharp left and right), and 1 mile to Hanslope. The church spire will be very obvious!
As you come into Hanslope, after sharp left turn, Hall is on your left before you reach the main junction.
Parking will be before this, primarily on your left.

From south up A5

From the roundabout south of MK (Bletchley on your left, by-pass A4146 comes in from the left) go north up the A5, when it becomes a duel carriageway. Take the third turning right - A509, signposted MKC rail station. (Rail line is on your right.)
After 200 yards or so at roundabout, turn left (by B&Q - which is set back on your left) This is - in MK parlance - the V6. Stay on this, over H4 (roundabout), H3 (roundabout) and H2 (smaller roundabout. (Don't bother to look for H1 - it hasn't got to the V6 yet....) Under aqueduct (Grand Union Canal) and next roundabout has Wolverton on left and New Bradwell on right - go straight over, short road bends left to next roundabout - rail viaduct will be directly ahead. Turn RIGHT - signposted Haversham and Hanslope.
Through Haversham - loads of speed bumps - at last one, road bears sharp left. Stay on this - very twisty - road for 4 miles into Hanslope.
Once in village turn first right at the triangle into Newport Road, Hall is on right.
Parking will be further on, on right.

AND - as this leaflet says - don't rely on your SatNav/GPS!
